Arrive with questions,

Leave with confidence.

What should I expect at an initial consultation?

Your goals at an initial consultation meeting are to (1) get solid answers to all your questions; and (2) understand a plan for resolving your case. The first step toward those goals is for us to listen to your story. Be prepared to explain your situation in a safe, confidential environment. If you have any questions or if someone you rely on has asked questions, feel free to bring a list of written questions.

You do not have to prove your case to us. At the same time, it can be helpful to bring certain documents. If you have been the victim of family violence, bring pictures of the injuries, if there are physical injuries. (Not all forms of violence leave marks.) If you have been served with any paperwork, bring it. If you have a prenuptial agreement or a postnuptial agreement, bring a copy signed by both of you.

It’s your meeting, so if you want to bring someone with you, that’s OK. Just remember that anything that person hears will no longer be confidential. That’s usually not a problem and if it looks like it might be a problem, we’ll let you decide.

You will leave with answers to your questions and a solid plan for resolving your case. You will have our contact information including telephone numbers, email addresses, and paralegal contact information. Most importantly, you will leave with a better sense of direction and confidence.
